Raoul Ascari

Chairman

Founder and Chairman of ITARE and Chairman of the sister company Concrete Finance. Since 2000, he held different positions in SACE Group, the Italian Export Credit Agency: Chief Operating Officer SACE S.p.A.; Chairman of the SACE BT, the credit insurer subsidiary; Board Member of SACE FCT, the factoring subsidiary. Between 2006 and 2009, he held the position of Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Berne Union – Export Credit Term Committee. In the 1990s, Mr. Ascari lived in the USA where he worked for FIAT USA as Vice President for International Finance and Head of the Washington DC FIAT office and the World Bank, as East Africa Region economist and later as Advisor to the Italian Executive Director and Member of the Board. Mr. Ascari holds a degree in Economics from the University of Bologna and completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Bradford (UK). He teaches postgraduate courses in Economic Development and African Affairs at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan.

Co-founder of ITARE and Manging Director of ITARE and its sister company Concrete Finance. Has more than 20 years of experience in the export credit insurance business where his last position was Head of the “New Frontiers – Africa Program”. Prior to that, he held the position of Head of SACE’s Office in Johannesburg covering the activity in sub-Saharan Africa and headed SACE’s Kenya desk in Nairobi posted with the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI). Before moving to Africa, he was Head of the Bank Risk Assessment and Monitoring Team where he coordinated SACE’s credit and risk analysis department.

Joined ITARE in 2017 after a working experience in SACE S.p.A. In SACE since 2009 he held several positions starting as Political Risk Insurance underwriter followed by the role of Account Manager. Since 2015, he was Head of SACE’s East Africa office based in Nairobi. He regularly writes and is a speaker on African issues. He holds an MBA from the Politecnico di Milano and a Bachelors’ degree in Business from the University of Rome “Roma Tre”.

Currently serving in Mediobanca, from 2007 to February 2017 he worked for SACE S.p.A. covering various positions, including Chief Financial Officer. Previously he worked for BNL, Citibank, Benetton Group, Merrill Lynch, MCC, and Agora SGR, dealing mainly with integrated credit risk management, market liquidity assets and liabilities.

Joined ITARE in 2019 where he is focusing on trade and export finance. Previously, he held the position of Head of Treasury at N.F. FOOD S.p.A., a leading Italian company in the HO.RE.CA sector, where he gained experience in cash flow and liquidity management. He holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelors’ degree in Business Economics from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy).

Joined ITARE in 2020, after having served in the sister company Concrete Finance since 2018, where he focused on large infrastructure projects. Before that, he worked in the advisory practice of PwC as a management consultant, focusing on banking and capital markets. He gained experience in export credit, structured trade finance, and corporate finance as a Junior Account & Policy Underwriter at SACE. He holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelors’ degree in Business Economics from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy).

Joined ITARE in 2020. He holds a Bachelors’ degree in International Business with proficiency in Chinese Mandarin (Intermediate) from the University of Sussex (UK). Attended international course of International Finance and Real-Estate Investment and Finance at the Renmin University of China. Fabio Valerio pursued the study of Chinese through the Confucius Institute at University La Sapienza (Italy).

Moses Mbitu

Kenya Representative

Joined ITARE in 2018, he is based in Nairobi, Kenya. From 2008 to 2017 has been a Credit Analyst at African Trade Insurance (ATI), underwriting commercial and political risks in the East African region across sectors such as Energy, Agribusiness, Chemicals and Transport. In 2018 he joined AXA Africa Specialty Risk as Business Development Manager for East African region with the task of expanding new markets.

Based in Kampala, Uganda. He has been Executive Director for Youth Alive Uganda for twelve years supervising youth health, youth livelihood, skills development and human rights programs supported by the USAID & MasterCard Foundation. Previously, he worked in the banking sector in Dublin, Ireland with Allied Irish Bank (AIB). In 1999 and 2000 Mr. Kanaba was a professional football player with Bray Wanderers FC, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan.

Joined ITARE in 2017 after a working experience in the construction sector. He has worked on-the-ground on project in infrastructure, water, real estate and entertainment developing a network contacts throughout the MENA and diversified experience ranging from project development, to budgeting, to development planning, to construction planning and project analysis. He holds a degree in Architectural Engineering & Design management from Loughborough University – UK.

Joined ITARE in 2018, he is based in Dakar, Senegal. He has held business development and project management roles with Total, China State Construction and Engineering Corporation, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd and others international companies in the construction and in the power sector in Senegal. Previously, he was research engineer at the National Institution for Aviation Research (NIAR) in Wichita (USA). He holds a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering and a Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Wichita State University, Kansas (USA).

He is in charge of institutional relationship for the West Africa Regions for ITARE. He is also Professor at the University of Sassari and at the University La Sapienza in Rome, and he is President of AgrotechSD. He was coordinator of the Italian Breeders Association, FAO Consultant and founder of FESASS (European Federation for Animal Health and Health Security).

Based in Accra, Ghana. He has multiannual experience in Business Development and internazionalization, with a focus on automotive, construction, manufacturing, and agribusiness. He graduated in Business from the University of Ghana and completed an MBA at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Enzo Crucco

Senior Advisor

Mr. Crucco is an Architect and Civil Engineer with more than 30-year experience in the construction sector worldwide. He has been Regional Manager in charge of the Far East and then of the Middle East regions for some major Italian contractors. Previous positions include Country Manager, Project Manager, Chief Engineer, and Construction Supervisor in Africa, Asia, and Middle East countries. As Project Manager, he was responsible for the management of notable large projects, including the Casecnan HPPs in the Philippines (with more than 3,000 workers of 11 nationalities), the Theun Hinboun Dam in Laos, the Jamal Abdul Nasser Highway in Kuwait, and the Penchala Tunnel in KL, Malaysia in the field of infrastructure; the Burj al Fateh Tower in Khartoum, Sudan and the International Expo Fiera di Milano al Portello in Italy in the field of civil works.
